Cracow / Krakow on google maps

Krakow aka Cracow is extremely popular destination for our private transportation services. Most of the time we drive from Prague to Krakow or from Krakow to Prague with a stop in Auschwitz (Oswieczim). Auschwitz was one of the worst concentration camps in Europe during the Second World War. The most "interesting" about the camp is that it is preserved as it was left after the war finished. Visitors will witness the terror and terrible life and death conditions prisoners had to suffer. It is pure, raw and moving experience, however it is recommended for everyone to visit the camp. Only through the personal experience one can understand the horrible things that happened there. Hopefully it will not happen ever again.

Apart from Auschwitz we also do stop at the Schindler's factory, which is now a museum. Easiest way to describe it is the quote from the trip advisor:

Housed in the former administrative building of Oskar Schindler factory, Emalia, is a museum that tells the story of Schindler and the Jewish prisoners of Plaszow who were the inspiration for Steven Spielberg's hit movie, "Schindler's List.

Direct transfer between Prague and Krakow takes about 5 and 1/2 hours, including a stop in Auschwitz, Schindler's Factory or other venues such as Brno, Olomouc or Moravsky Kras prolongs the journey by the extra travel time and waiting time. We do not recommend to do more than one "sightseeing" stop on the way.

Optional routes go through the famous Salt mines, Zakopane or even Wroclaw, but those are kind of "hardcore" trips...

Trip to Krakow / Prague can be done by the train. There is only one direct connection and it is an overnight train. The cost of the ticket is 61 Euro with a surcharge for sleeping coupe. The cheapest is the shared 6 persons coupe for 10 Euro per person and the most expensive 1 person coupe costs extra 51 Euro. The train ride takes almost 12 hours.

Public buses are not available from Prague to Krakow or return. The connection by bus can be done via Ostrava and Brno, but it is not worth the trouble. Also the cost is not reasonable.

Krakow / Cracow

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Krakow is one of the largest and oldest cities in Poland and a popular tourist destination. Its historic centre was inscribed on the list of World Heritage Sites as the first of its kind. Situated on the Vistula river (Polish: Wisla) in the Lesser Poland region, the city dates back to the 7th century.Krakow has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Polish academic, cultural and artistic life, and is one of Poland's most important economic centres. It was the capital of Poland from 1038 to 1596, the capital of the Grand Duchy of Krakow from 1846 to 1918, and the capital of Krakow Voivodeship from the 14th century to 1999. It is now the capital of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.

In 1978, the same year UNESCO placed Krakow on the list of World Heritage Sites, Karol Wojtyla, archbishop of Krakow, was elevated to the papacy as John Paul II, the first non-Italian pope in 455 years, and the first ever Slavic pope.
